The GDNÄ is a non-profit and registered association with around 3,500 members and has its office in the Physics Centre in Bad Honnef (North Rhine-Westphalia). The association is managed by a board of directors on an honorary basis. This consists of a president, two vice presidents (former president and felected president) and a treasurer. The president is appointed every two years by the general assembly at the suggestion of the board of directors. He shall determine the subject of the meeting to be held during his term of office.
The executive board is supported by
- A secretary-general (with an advisory vote in the board of directors), who is appointed by the board of directors and is responsible for the association’s day-to-day business,
- A representative of the disciplines of chemistry, physics, biology, medicine, mathematics and engineering, each nominated by the council of GDNÄ and elected every two years by the members of the GDNÄ in a written procedure to the council of GDNÄ for a four-year term of office,
- Scientific group chairmen who, together with the executive board, the secretary-general and the area chairs, elaborate the content of the conference programme and select the speakers of the respective symposia,
- One local managing director “economy” and “science” each for the respective year of the meeting, appointed by the board of directors.
The group chairs, area chairs and local chairs directors form the board of directors together with the board of directors and the executive council. It meets twice a year for a half-day meeting at the respective venue.
